Red Bull TV is the ultimate app to stream live, linear, on-demand events, videos and movies with high-octane sports content featuring racing and events like motorbike, motorsport, surfing, skiing, snowboarding, climbing and more.

Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary spatial computing device that seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world, while allowing users to stay present and connected to others.

The Challenge

Red Bull TV wanted to be a day one launch partner on Apple Vision Pro - with only 10 weeks to get their app built, submitted, and certified in the App Store.

At the time there was very little known about the new operating system that powers Apple Vision Pro called visionOS. With true uncertainty about how much could be accomplished on such a tight deadline with brand new technology, Red Bull turned to Artium for additional support.

The Solution

Artium augmented Red Bull’s in-house team with one PM and two full stack iOS engineers.

The team was using a highly iterative approach and shipped seven TestFlight builds in December and five in January. By shipping new code every day and focusing on high priority improvements, we were able to generate weekly releases. This approach was critical in ensuring we had a polished app ready to go live in time for the February 2nd global launch day.

Even with the tight timeline there were ambitions beyond just shipping the launch app - Red Bull didn’t just replicate the existing app on Apple Vision Pro but simultaneously built a refresh of the Red Bull TV streaming platform that will be emulated on other platforms.

The team also broke out frontend services into modules so they could be reused in other applications within the broader Red Bull digital products ecosystem and Artium also introduced pair programming to the Red Bull TV team and forged closer collaboration between their engineering and design teams.

From a tech stack perspective the team leveraged SwiftUI and the latest versions of tvOS and visionOS to iterate and define the product quickly and embraced Apple’s latest Structured Concurrency model and integrated existing 3D models.
